Culture of Art

Functions of Early Art
They drew a lot of animals and the predators in hiding. Maybe they were telling us what kind of animals they had and what was killing them as well as stick figures for hunters. The animals were so well drawn and the people basic lines.-interesting.
I think there were more animal instead of humans drawn because the first are simple shapes and the second are more elaborate signs that are only found at a few sites. It was maybe harder to draw three dimensional shapes and animals were more meaningful to them.
The cave drawings can tell us how creative and imaginative Paleolithic people were. What the source of their diet was buy the animals they drew and how inventive they were.
A source of concern with respect to the preservation of the art and also caused a certain amount of discomfort for visitors. It was very dark in the caves, so light in the cave was made by animal fat in a carved stone where they found soot kind of like an early oil lamp.
Possible functions of this art may have been an activity to draw, or to show I was here to the next person, maybe to warn or protect them about certain animals and danger. And since it was buried down in a cave maybe it was a ritual or religious practice.

Commonalities in Function
Art function is to serve as a stamp in our culture through emotions, religion and pictures. Early humans used tools and some colors to draw figures and shapes to tell a story. As modern humans have more advanced ways to depict art it still is trying to convey some kind of message through art.

Introduce Us to Your Favorite Art:
I think Cirque show’s mystery and strength as to what you can do with your body and illusion that try to provoke emotion from the viewer.
I think people intrigued with performing arts, gymnastic, acting or artist would be interested in the culture of this surrounding these acrobatic performances. They are usually dress colorful in character in sleek outfits, sometimes camouflaged letting body movements and music in capture the spirit of the performance. You can watch the show like I have in Las Vegas, but the show is worldwide!
It makes people more curious and imaginative thinkers. There is not detriment to the art unless you’re trying it at home untrained or fall from one of the stunts. It’s very physical and you have to be very limber that’s what makes it such a beautiful and unique art form.

  1. When describing the commonalities of art from early humans to modern humans you made a good point in pointing out the tools that were used. The Paleolithic people used different tools than the modern artists, yet the fact that they created tools for the purpose of art is amazing. I also liked your post section about performance art. There are so many aspects to performance art, and so many avenues for artists to work with. I think that the Cirque du Soleil is a great example of performing arts.

  2. I liked how you said they used the soot to make light, and incorporated the tyoes of tools that they used. I also think that they drew these animals to show others which were either dangerous or which were good to eat. I also liked your choice of art form. I love Cirque du Soleil, they are amazing at what they do, I've seen them twice and both times I was amazed at the things they are able to do.

  3. I noticed as well how the animals were detailed and the human (just one that I saw) was a simple stick figure. I thought that was interesting as well.

What does being buried in a cave have to do with being ritualistic?

Circe du Soleil is definitely a unique form of artistic expression. The question of "culture" was referring not to the show itself, however, but the culture of being a performer in this type of artistic expression. It might be difficult to find this kind of information, but it would be interesting to see if anyone has interviewed the performers to learn about the life/culture behind the scenes of these big shows. Likewise, the final question wasn't with reference to the performers, but what benefit and cost this type of art prevents to the society as a whole.

  4. I really enjoyed reading your post. It was well structured and informative. Your points of the cave analysis was very good. I especially liked your Cirque shows point, I saw a show similar to that many years ago in Las Vegas. I'm not really sure if it was the same one. I agree with you on the various talents that are displayed in these types of shows. Great Post

  5. Very interesting post! I enjoyed reading about how they were able to make the oil lamps for light in the dark caves. In my post, I talked about the darkness of the caves however did not know how they were able to make light. Also, I loved the form of art you choose. I have always had a fascination with Cirque de Soleil performances. The vibrant colors are so intriguing and seeing the strength of the performers is amazing. I have seen several different shows and I always feel like I am watching a story through movement. I never even imagined my body being able to do those things, but that is actually a great thought! Great post! :)
